Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Change can be a good thing. It often comes as a result of growth and new opportunities. We are excited about recent changes that have taken place at Southern Accents, specifically within our SA Team. We were thrilled to announce several months ago Kolby’s return! Kolby rejoined the SA Team after a six year hiatus. Managing the showroom, Kolby is available Tuesday through Saturday to help you select the perfect architectural salvage pieces for your next project as well as provide custom quotes for doors and table tops. You can stop by the showroom during regular business hours or give him a call at 877-737-0554.

Another notable change has taken place at our Wood Showroom. John, who many of you have dealt with over the past few years, is no longer with us. John left Southern Accents recently to pursue other ventures. Visit our wood showroom and you will find Patrick, Mauldin or Stephen ready and willing to help you with your wood purchases. If you are looking for reclaimed wood for your floors, walls, ceilings, or any special project, we have a HUGE selection you can browse!! And, we are excited to add farmhouse style table tops to our selection of custom made wood products!

If you’ve never visited our wood showroom, it is located just 1 mile down the road from our main showroom at 250 Janeway Drive in Cullman. Our wood showroom is open to the public during regular business hours. Our two warehouses stay stocked with reclaimed lumber, salvaged barn wood, shiplap, tongue and groove bead board, reclaimed hand hewn and circular sawn beams and salvaged trim. Whether your project is large or small, pay us a visit or give us a call and let us help you with your wood needs!

Which Wood Would You Choose?

We were doing a little spring cleaning at the Wood Showroom this week and ran across several stacks of unique wood. Webster’s dictionary defines unique as something unusual or distinctively characteristic. At Southern Accents, unique could be anything from a piece of double beaded shiplap to an unusual color or pattern in the wood. Sorting through the stacks usually starts a conversation about the variety and history of reclaimed wood. Walking through our wood showroom, it is quite interesting to take note of the uniqueness and character of each stack.

Unlike visiting a lumber yard or local DIY store with stacks of raw lumber, looking around our large showroom, filled with salvaged wood, there is so much beauty to behold.  There is a kaleidoscope of color found in the salvaged lumber. Shades of weathered browns and greys mixed with reds, blues and greens from layers of old paint or stain can be seen throughout the showroom. There is a character in reclaimed wood that can only be added with age. Old knots, nail holes, and occasionally small carvings are like battle wounds that help tell it’s story.Southern Accents Architectural Antiques

This photo perfectly demonstrates how we used salvaged wood in a variety of colors to create these accent walls in Garden & Guns Artist Tent at Slossfest.

From barn wood, bead board, reclaimed flooring and large beams, how do you choose which wood is right for your project? While some projects may require certain size or thickness specifications, we like to encourage our customers to browse our selection of salvaged wood and see which stack “speaks” to them. The painted shiplap and colored bead-board have been very popular as wall and ceiling coverings. Salvaged flooring is readily sought after to be reused as it was originally intended. Mantel shelves and matching corbels are cut from old hand hewn beams. Our customers show up looking for the perfect wood, with all it’s wonderful imperfections, to use on an endless list of projects. It doesn’t matter the size of the project, whether you need a single board to build a picture frame or several hundred square feet for a larger project, come pay us a visit! Seeing, touching, even smelling the old wood will lead you to the perfect choice for your job!

Wonderful Wood

In case you don’t know by now… we LOVE salvaged and reclaimed wood! We rescue it, we create with it, we have a deep appreciation for its history, we respect the sacrifices of the natural resources and feel a deep responsibility to help protect those resources by finding ways to reuse and repurpose the wood. Our large wood showroom houses a wide variety of salvaged and reclaimed wood that is ready and waiting to be repurposed.

Currently, we have some of the prettiest salvaged, tongue and groove, painted beadboard that we’ve ever seen! The boards have been de-nailed, cleaned, lightly sanded, sorted and stacked. Our varied selection includes gorgeous shades of blues, greens, cream and white. The boards can be used with the painted side showing or you can flip them and use the back side which is a natural brown wood color. These boards are ready for use! They would make a gorgeous wall or ceiling covering or are perfect for DIY craft projects.

In addition to this beautiful beadboard, our wood showroom is stocked with a variety of salvaged and reclaimed lumber, wood trim and beams. Visit us online at www.sa1969.com, give us a call at 877 737-0554 or come see us! Our showrooms are open Tuesday – Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Milling Around

Southern Accents has been a family owned and operated business since 1969. Second generation owner, Garlan Gudger, Jr., saw the need last year to take SA’s salvage operations to the next level by adding the ability to mill our own salvage lumber.

A growing part of Southern Accents business is salvage wood. One mile from the showroom, on Janeway Drive, sits our warehouse, fully stocked with salvaged barn wood, bead board, beams, fireplace timbers and more. As people are becoming more environmentally aware, the demand for salvage and repurposed wood continues to grow. The patina and beauty of naturally aged wood is simply unmatched. When using the wood for flooring, most want the antique wood milled. Milling the wood ensures that the planks are uniform in width and thickness. It can also give the wood a “clean” face and open up the wood pores, allowing it to be more susceptible to receiving stains and finishes. Having our own mill allows us the ability to fulfill custom orders more quickly and efficiently.

Stop by our wood warehouse and shop one of the largest selections of salvaged wood available in the Southeast! Our warehouse is open Tues-Fri from 9 to 5 and Sat from 10 to 4.

Our current wood stock includes this gorgeous chippy paint breadboard recently salvaged from Selma, Alabama. We have approximately 3,000 square feet while supplies last, priced at $1.00 per linear foot. There is a mix of colors that include white, grey, avocado, haint blue, electric blue, lime green. The salvaged breadboard is a popular choice for wall and ceiling coverings as well as an endless number of craft and DIY projects, including frames, headboards, and more. The ends have been cut and the wood is ready to be repurposed!
